The traditional village of Palios Agios Athanasios in recent years has been improved in tourism and has become the top winter destination in Macedonia, but the Athenians know very little about it and therefore hasten to visit.

Today the village has been named by the Ministry of Culture as preserved. All operations are aligned with the surrounding area and respect the traditional appearance of the village. The previously abandoned Palios Agios Athanasios has turned into one of the most cosmopolitan mountainous village with traditional buildings, beautiful inns, stylish bars, tavernas to tantalise the taste, holiday villas, branded the show-biz and a crowd every weekend swarm mainly from Thessaloniki but recently also from Athens.
